About

My name is Bob Thompson and I have been an avid golfer for quite some time. I am now a three-handicapper. My three handicaps are plantar fasciitis, wobbly knees and an occasional flare-up of tendonitis in my left elbow. It usually translates to about plus 36 on a typical golf course. So, I am a safe golfing companion in the sense that I’m not going to make anyone look bad.

I came up with the idea for this site because I realize that many people get stuck with prioritizing time spent on different facets of their lives. Some of those areas are professional, recreational, spiritual, educational, and social. The key is to find the right balance for you. Most of the people I know seem to feel that faith, family, work, and leisure in that order set the proper tone for a successful life, and I agree. There will be posts and articles here to help put these in perspective. Way of Life Golf is an effort to find balance and direction on our journey of discovering what it is that gives meaning to life. For many of us, golf is a pleasant diversion, an oasis on the busy caravan of life’s travels. My wish for you is that you will find something here that gives you hope and inspiration.

A few years ago, I saw a movie called “Seven Days in Utopia” and it had a big impact on me. I have since read the book and its sequel and have come to appreciate it even more. It is the story of a golfer who has a disastrous outcome in a tournament early in his professional career. He meets a retired golf pro who offers to help him “find his game.” What he discovers is that engaging his passion and uniting it with his true purpose and calling for his life is what finding his game is all about. I will have much to say about this wonderful story in my blog posts, so check back often.
